THE INCONVENIENCE

        was founded in 2010 by a group of 15 mutli-disciplinary artists living and making art in a loft over a furniture store in Lakeview. Since incorporation over 30 events have been produced including devised work, world-premiere plays, peer partnerships, commissioned corporate events, one-night-only celebrations and an outdoor festival.

        The company is now comprised of 19 artists from varying disciplines. The members are dancers, choreographers, musicians, theatre makers, puppeteers, visual and graphic design artists, and producers, and often exercising several of these talents. Along with the support of a large and multiplying network of repeat collaborators, the annual operating budget has grown from $10,000 to $130,000 in 2015, and the group has performed for over 30,000 people.

        Co-productions and partnerships span across art mediums and include such organizations as About Face, Steppenwolf, Elastic Arts, DCASE, We Stand Sideways, JRV Productions, Tuesday night Dinner, Schlitz Brewery, The Empty Bottle, Jane Beachy LLC and The University of Chicago. In 2012, The Inconvenience was named Best New Company in the Chicago Reader, and in 2015 Newcity recognized The Inconvenience as one of the ‘Top Five on the Rise’ in their Top Five of Everything 2015 special end-of-year edition. .
